William F. "Bill" Moran, Jr.
(May 1, 1925 - February 12, 2006)
Born in Frederick, Maryland, Bill Moran is widely regarded as the father of the modern knife‑forging movement. He is credited with reviving the ancient technique of pattern‑welded steel—historically known as Damascus steel—and reintroducing it to contemporary bladesmithing.
History will undoubtedly remember Bill Moran as the most influential bladesmith of the 20th century. His achievements have been chronicled in numerous books and articles, and his knives remain highly sought‑after collectibles, celebrated for their exceptional functionality, craftsmanship, and artistic beauty.

The Moran Museum Shop operates as a working bladesmithing shop with a small museum located on the upper level, featuring displays of a selection of Moran knives and other pieces crafted by Bill Moran. The museum is open during select Frederick events and by appointment.
